In the Studio

The Rockies, Winston Wachter Seattle Fall 2019

The Rockies begin in New Mexico and extend in to Canada with some of the most gorgeous National Parks in their path. My most recent body of work is inspired by photos taken on our camping road trip through the Rockies with stops in Rocky Mountain National Park, Grand Tetons National Park, Yellowstone National Park and Glacier National Park.

Retracing the steps of my grandparents

The road trips we do aren't something new to my family.  Recently my mom was diagnosed with Alzheimers and I began culling through reels of 8mm film taken by my grandfather in the 50's and 60's. The films document trips that are so familiar, and I was able to retrace the steps my mom had taken so many years ago. Although my mom may not recognize the people around her, upon seeing the videos she perks up and says, "That was Glacier, we went when we were in High School."  These places hold our shared memories.
