In the Studio

The Rockies, Winston Wachter Seattle

Opening reception Sept 10th 5-8pm

The Rockies begin in New Mexico and extend in to Canada with some of the most gorgeous National Parks in their path.  My recent work is directly related to my family’s travels through the Rockies. We take long road trips, usually three or more weeks, and every piece is a memory. The painting created then has a sense of fullness; attached to each one is a snapshot of the place, sure, but also the story—a nine-hour hike in the Tetons, an inside joke with my children, a long vista.

Retracing the steps of my grandparents

The road trips we do aren't something new to my family.  Recently  I began culling through reels of 8mm film taken by my grandfather in the 50's and 60's. The films document road trips that are so familiar, and I was able to retrace the steps my mom had taken so many years ago.  These places hold our shared memories.
